Now That That's Out Of Our System

What I inevitably deemed as Dave Roberts trying to lose his job and force a game 7 by not starting a rested enough Walker Buehler was only outmatched in stupidity by Tampa Bay Rays coach Kevin Cash. We all know by now Snell was destroying the Dodgers lineup one after another sending batter after batter back to the dugout. 9 strikeouts through 4 innings tying Sandy Koufax? Something can also be said for the Ray's bats going dormant when needed but that is moot at this point along with Snell's replacement Anderson who was tops during the regular season but dismal in the post allowing a run in each of his appearances.
Mookie said it Betts (best) “Oh man, it was kind of a sigh of relief. Had he stayed in the game, he may have pitched a complete game. He was rolling, pitching really well. That’s the Cy Young Snell that came tonight, so once he came out of the game, it was a breath of fresh air.”
I was fortunate enough to be watching the game with a Dodgers fan and when Snell got the hook after a single to Austin Barnes you could tell he had just won the World Series right then and there. All my text messages confirmed that with an LA giddiness that hadn't been heard from in 32 years. A wash of 2002 Dusty Baker Russ Ortiz washed over me. A Mookie Betts double and a wild pitch later had Los Angles popping champagne for the second time in a month thanks to the weird world of Covid.
Speaking of Covid and to make 2020 well 2020 af. Justin Turner who I had pegged for the MVP (nothing against Corey Seager who was raking batting .400 in the series) was pulled in the 8th inning after a second inning call to the Dodgers dugout had revealed Turner had tested positive for Covid-19. I would have left him out there as well and I'm a Covid fearing man but seriously a mid potential World Series clinching game and you have to pull, in my opinion, the clutchest bat on the diamond mid inning? Only in 2020.
Kershaw finally gets his redemption after years of not showing up in the post season stamping his his first ballot ticket to Cooperstown. Hats off. All in all 2020 baseball was a wild ride and while Arozarena did all he could to keep the Ray's afloat it wasn't enough. If only Snell was left in to close out the inning, at the very least, it could have been a performance for the ages. It wasn't. The cloud of the hook will haunt Tampa Bay for years to come. Enjoy Los Angles while championships in other professional sports are great World Series victories are at the top of the heap. Just ask Boston and Chicago. While most of San Francisco and a portion of Florida had their fingers crossed for a Kenley Jansen appearance in the 9th inning Dave Roberts did a very un Dave Roberts thing and left Julio Urias on the mound to seal the deal. With that I say congrats. Cheers.
